Representative teams

Also included in the MPA’s tournament calendar are a few representative events. One is the Nelson v Marlborough clash which is run in June of each year. Two men’s teams and two women’s teams from each province compete with teams made up of 8 players per team. This annual clash is held alternatively in each province.

Our biggest representative match is the Annual Seddon Shield clash which is held in the first weekend of September each year. Teams from Westland, Buller, West Coast, Nelson and Marlborough participate. Two teams from each province (men’s and women’s) participate in a round robin tournament with the winner being awarded the coveted Seddon Shield Trophies.
REP players are selected from our pool of members to trial for positions in the squads. Each year Marlborough has fielded Men’s and Women’s representative teams to participate in:

• Nelson v Marlborough Trophy match (held annually in June)
• Marlborough vs West Coast (annually)
• Marlborough vs Buller (annually)
• Seddon Shield tournament (held annually, currently in its 47th year in 2024). Five provincial teams participate.
